Meet Jenny Powell

My Personal Health Journey
I became a Personal Trainer by accident.
Well… not entirely by accident. But it certainly wasn’t the original plan.
Over 20 years ago, after experiencing my own period of ill health and struggling with my weight, I began learning how nutrition, exercise and self-care could support my recovery. What started as a personal journey to feel better physically and mentally quickly became something much bigger.
At the time, I was working within the NHS in public health, supporting others with their wellbeing — but I became increasingly fascinated by the role that exercise and good nutrition play in long-term health.
So I decided to train professionally in exercise instruction and nutrition coaching.
What I didn’t expect was how much I would love helping others experience the same transformation I had experienced myself.
Because I’ve been on that journey, I understand how it feels. I know the challenges that come with wanting to change your health, your confidence, and the way you feel in your own body.
It’s never just about weight loss or fitness.
It’s about building habits, resilience, and self-belief.
Today, through Habitual Health & Fitness, I specialise in helping people build strength, improve their health, and feel more confident — with a particular focus on supporting women through pregnancy, mid-life and menopause.
Because lasting change isn’t about quick fixes.
It’s about building the right habits — and having the right coaching to support you along the way.
My Professional Background
My coaching approach is built on more than two decades of professional experience and extensive formal training in health, fitness and nutrition. This means the guidance you receive is grounded in education, evidence and real coaching experience.
Crucially, I've walked the journey myself, so I feel I can genuinely offer a deep, empathetic understanding of the challenges and triumphs you may face.
The Habitual Health & Fitness Journey
When I’m Not in the Gym…
When I’m not coaching clients, writing training programmes or talking about protein and progressive overload, you’ll probably find me with a guitar or a dog lead in my hands.
I’m a proud dog mum to my adorable Cockerdor pup, who ensures I get plenty of fresh air, muddy walks and reminders to "be more dog" about life.
Music raised me. Fitness Saved me
Other than fitness, music has always been a huge part of my life. My love of music started long before I ever picked up a dumbell. I grew up in a house where music was always playing.
My dad was (and still is!) firmly into Northern Soul & Mod scene, while my mum’s soundtrack was more power ballads and Tina Turner at full volume.
Somewhere between the two, I found my own love for guitars and live music. My Uncle David, who plays guitar himself, was a big inspiration and encouraged me to start playing, alongside the best music teacher I had at school, Mr Delaney, who always had so much enthusiasm and support for my love of music— and once I started, that was it.
Music has unapologetically been a huge part of my life ever since.
My weekend job
Fast forward a few years (/ decades ahem!) alongside my coaching role, I’m guitarist for the band Replicater, and when I’m not with the lads gigging or rehearsing, I’m usually listening to it or heading off to a live gig somewhere.
Nothing beats the energy of a being in a great crowd with your mates in my opinion.
Whilst I'm here, here's a cheeky Plug for Replicater
( Yep. shameless, I know) :
If I had to choose a favourite music genre, it would be 90's Britpop and I’m slightly obsessed with Oasis — because some things in life are simply non-negotiable.
Indie kid forever!!!!
